NY – CT – MA – NH (for a hot minute) – ME

Today was an exercise in patience. We were on the road just before 10am. RV Trip Wizard lost its navigation privileges after suggesting an over-my-shoulder, dog-legged right turn (that we didn’t even try!)…. The RV console decided it just wasn’t this morning which minimized the rear camera AND music (one of those is more important than the other & it revived when we stopped for gas). The Target pickup was seamless (once we navigated in circles for some minutes) and then we were actually on our way! NY State drives about as well as NYC…. CT drivers were coined “Connecticrappers” and rivaled the “Massholes” in their aggressive tendencies. Traffic was congested for most of CT & MA, but overall — no harm, no foul!

We arrived at our perfectly picked spot (KOA #3) around 5:30pm. Older Bookend (OB) transcribed the “Stuff To Do On Arrival” list which made this the easiest setup yet — a very good idea (if I do say so myself, and I do!) because driving a 6T vehicle for 8 hours makes me more than a little irritable. Pull-through end spot makes things much better, too.

We acquired Lobster Rolls from a local restaurant (with coleslaw & krinkle-cut fries) and they were enjoyed by all. I planned SO MUCH of this trip in SUCH a short amount of time that I really didn’t give more than a minute’s thought to food. Whoops. I’ll work out the rest of those details today. And pull some things out of the freezer. It’s a steep learning curve, y’all.

And THEN we had our first visitors!! Mary & I met at a summer program in Missouri 31 years ago and have been friends ever since. She lived in Washington State, came to Maine for college, & never looked back. We haven’t seen each other in 5 years & her son, now 15, was 3 when we last saw him. The theme of the night quickly became “geek parents make geek kids” and the boys hit it off like they’d known each other their whole lives. She threatened to leave him (I mean, what’s one more?), but drivers’ ed was on the agenda.

After s’mores and a campfire, we’re tucked in for the night and I anticipate a deeeeeep sleep for all of us! (You hear that, Molly?)
